we are the usurpers of the sky
shouting down the follicles of cloud and heat
we flail in the sundust
joyous with light on our cheeks
but those horizons unknown
covered by a flimsy coinage
of eternity and dusk
bear brooding doom thick on the wind
bleak and heavy come the ships
triremes of solid storm
they creak and rumble in billows of dark
leaving rivalrous eddies and wakes
electric aromas pool
in the hollows of our eyes
and seep into our teeth
the sun has sunk through our heels
a leap! the fiendish threat left far behind
in lightning gasps and glee
nimble spirits twist fathoms high
our toes dithery and fleet
we are the usurpers of the sky
shouting down the follicles of cloud and heat
we flail in the sundust
joyous with light on our cheeks
